How to test Hola Elara on Android

A step-by-step guide to installing the test version from Google Play. It takes about 5 minutes.

Si algo no funciona

Si sigue igual: vuelve a Google Play Store, entra a Almacenamiento y toca Borrar almacenamiento (o "Borrar datos").

El enlace dice "Aplicación no disponible" (App not available)

  • Aún no te agregamos.

Before you start, we need your email.

The test version is private. Only people we add to the list can open it. Send us the email of the Google account you use on your phone (the same one you use to sign in to Google Play) and we will let you know once you have access.

What you need

If you installed Elara earlier from a file (APK) sent to you over WhatsApp or a link: uninstall it first. Press and hold the app icon, tap App info, then Uninstall. If you skip this, Google Play may refuse to install the new version. Your account and data are stored in the cloud, so nothing is lost.

Installation steps

  1. Send us your Google email Send us the email of your Google account through the same channel where you received this guide. You can copy and paste this message:
Hi, I want to test Elara on Android. My Google email is: youremail@gmail.com

Wait for our confirmation. When we tell you "you have access", go to step 2. If you open the link before that, it will not work.

  2. Open the test link on your phone On your Android phone (not on a computer), tap this link: https://play.google.com/apps/internaltest/4701097242763437266

If it asks you to choose an account, choose the same Google account you sent us.

  3. Tap "Accept invite" You will see a page titled "You're invited to test com.holaelara.mobile (unreviewed)". That technical name and the word "unreviewed" are normal: this is the test version of Elara. Tap the blue Accept invite button. After a few seconds you will see that you are now a tester.

If instead of that page you see "App not available" with the message "Your account hasn't yet been invited to participate in this app's internal testing program", you are using a different Google account. See the fix below under "If something goes wrong".

  4. Tap "Download it on Google Play" On that same page a link appears to download the app from Google Play. Tap it and the Elara page will open in the store.
  5. Install and open the app Tap Install, wait for it to finish and tap Open. Create your account or sign in and you are testing Elara.

All set. Updates arrive on their own through Google Play. To check by hand: open Google Play, tap your profile picture and go to Manage apps & device.

If something goes wrong

Start with the problem that looks most like yours. Almost everything is fixed in one or two tries.

Google Play says "Item not found"

This is the most common problem. It happens when Google Play kept old information and does not recognize that you are a tester. It is fixed by clearing the cache of Google Play and Google Play Services:

  1. Open your phone's Settings and go to Apps (on some phones it is called "Manage apps" or "See all apps").
  2. Find and open Google Play Store.
  3. Tap Storage (on some phones it appears directly) and then Clear cache.
  4. Go back and tap Force stop.
  5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 with Google Play services. If you do not see it in the list, tap the three-dot menu and turn on Show system.
  6. Restart your phone (turn it off and on again).
  7. Open the test link from step 2 again.

If it still happens: go back to Google Play Store, open Storage and tap Clear storage (or "Clear data"). This does not delete your apps or photos. You will only need to reopen Google Play and confirm your account. Then restart the phone and open the link again.

If the error still appears, check that you are using the account you sent us (see the next question).

The link says "App not available"

You will see the message "Your account hasn't yet been invited to participate in this app's internal testing program". It means Google cannot find your email on the list. It is almost always one of these causes:

  • Wrong account. Your phone may have several Google accounts and the link opened with another one. Tap your photo or initial at the top right, choose the account you sent us and wait for the page to reload. You can also add the right account with "Add another account". Then open the link again.
  • We have not added you yet. Confirm that we told you "you have access". When we add a new email, it can take a few minutes to activate.
  • The email has a typo. Check it and, if needed, send it to us again.
  • You opened the link on a computer. Open it on the Android phone. If you are on the phone and it opens in a browser, copy the link and paste it into Chrome with the same Google account.
The "Accept invite" button does not appear, or it says I cannot take part
  • Check that you are on the right account (see above).
  • Supervised accounts for minors (Family Link), and some work or school accounts, cannot join testing programs. Use a personal Google account.
  • If you are already a tester, the page may show the download link directly. In that case, skip to step 4.
The "Install" button does not appear, or it says "Your device isn't compatible"
  • Wait 10 minutes, close Google Play from your recent apps and open the link again. Sometimes the app page takes a while to update.
  • Follow the steps for "Item not found" (clear the cache and restart).
  • If it still does not appear, send us your phone model and your Android version (Settings, About phone). That way we can check whether your device is compatible.
  • Phones without Google Play (for example, some recent Huawei phones) cannot install the app this way.
The download is stuck on "Download pending" or "Waiting for download"
  • Connect to a Wi-Fi network and check that you have free space on the phone.
  • In Google Play, tap your photo, open Manage apps & device and see whether another download is queued. Pause or cancel the others.
  • In Google Play, open Settings, then Network preferences, and under App download preference choose "Over any network" while you download.
  • Check that the phone's date and time are set to automatic.
  • If it does not move, clear the Google Play cache (see the first question) and restart.
An error appears when installing (for example, "DF-DFERH-01" or "Server error")
  1. Clear the cache of Google Play and Google Play services (see the first question) and restart the phone.
  2. If it continues, in Settings go to Accounts (or "Passwords & accounts"), tap your Google account and choose Account sync. Check that sync is on.
  3. As a last resort, remove your Google account from the phone and add it again. Then open the test link once more.

If you see a different error code, send us a screenshot.

Google Play says "App not installed" or "Conflict with an existing package"

This is almost always because the earlier version of Elara, installed from an APK file, is still on your phone. Uninstall it (Settings, Apps, Elara, Uninstall) and install again from Google Play following step 4.

The app closes by itself or stays blank when I open it
  1. Check that you have an internet connection.
  2. Close the app from your recent apps and open it again.
  3. Look for updates in Google Play (Manage apps & device, Updates available) and install the latest one.
  4. Uninstall Elara and install it again from Google Play.
  5. If it keeps happening, write to us with your phone model, your Android version and what you were doing when it failed. A screenshot or screen recording helps a lot.
The new update does not arrive

Open Google Play, tap your profile picture, go to Manage apps & device and look under Updates available. If Elara is not there, wait a while and check again. You can also open the test link to see the latest version. Some small changes arrive without downloading anything, just by opening the app with an internet connection.

Anything else?

If none of these solutions works, write to us through the same channel where you received this guide and tell us what step you were on and what message appeared. A screenshot helps us solve it faster.
